In my Humanities class we did an assignment called a Socratic Seminar. This is a discussion/research assignment. A Socratic Seminar is when a group of students come into a circle and discuss different topics. The first step to this was to get prepared. We had received a sheet of paper that helped us form 3 different claims. Under that section we had to state are supporting evidence, and lastly are developing questions. Claim one was to be about a book we’re reading called Tempest. Claim two had to be something about what the class learnt recently. Claim three was “Any topic of your choice“ For this reflection i'll go over my claim number two. My claim 2 is “ WWII shaped the world.” My developing question was. “If you could prevent world war two would you?” My evidence was -full employment and fair distribution of income. WWII started in 1939 and The Great Depression ended in 1939. I wanted to say that the WW was a kinda cure for the Great Depression. I’ll admit that WWII was a tragic event but i fell like it needed to happen, if not we could all be somwhere diffrent in life, or not even be alive. We had 3 different groups. A, B, and C. I was in group B. It would start be us sitting down in a circle and the teacher would tell us that we had a set amount of time for topic 1. During the entire discussion I wasnt able to talk much or share any ideas. It wasnt only me. One half of the table was talking most of the time while the other half just listened and agreed/disagree depending on what was brought up. The thing that i felt like i could have done better was talk more. I could have asked questions to the people that couldnt talk so we can all get a better grade for are participation portion. The 21st century skill that i think i used in this assignment would be Communication skills. For this skill i had to be able to communicate through oral, written, and nonverbal communication. For this assighment the thing im most proud of is that i listen to everyone. I tried to understand where everyone was coming from and there points that they said.
